Build Overview | Compost Bays, Raised Sleeper Beds, Moveable Garden Planters, Log Stores, Patios, Fencing
One of our clients in Oxford sits on around 6 acres and plans to have a vegetable garden as well as numerous flower beds, so wanted to have a workable system for their composting. We built this 6 x 3 meter, 3 bay compost bin on a 100mm concrete base, using tanalised sleepers. The boards at the front slot in and out so as the bin fills, you can get maximum containment. We also bought and supplied a Kubota compact tractor with high tip collector and front loader which allows the bins to be turned and moved as they reach the next stage of composting.
Similar to the production of the compost bins, we use 240cm x 20cm x 10cm tanalised wooden sleepers for raised beds, and as you can see here to a number of heights, from one to three sleepers high. These raised beds last incredibly well, and certainly ease the strain on your back when the inevitable time for weeding comes round.
A local client, and possibly one of the best being a local independent brewery! Wanted six moveable flower beds to use as dividers in their courtyard. The boxes are made of tanalised timber and lined with a heavy gsm builders waterproof membrane, which we then add drainage holes to. The 240 x 50 x 50 planters sit on 50mm castors and are clad with featheredge boards, before being finished with 3 coats of a 10 year guaranteed silk black paint. They are perfect for restaurants, bars, pubs and cafe’s as well as around pools and on patios.
One of our culinary clients had unfortunately lost a cherry tree to disease and really didn’t want it to go to waste, especially when it’s so good for the barbecue. So we built this lovely 180cm x 40cm x 360cm tanalised wooden log store that attached to the back of the wooden garage. It was covered with corrugated black onduline roofing sheets to match the garage roof, and as you can see stored 2.5 CBM of logs.
This small London garden had literally been lost to the foxes, who had buried under the once wooden decked ‘terrace’, and left the owner mildly worried about spending time in their garden. It was time to reclaim the terrace! The garden was at the back of a line of Victorian terraced houses with the only access being through the neighbours flat, so roughly 4 tons of type 1, sand and concrete was carried through their house, along with sleepers, a cement mixer, and with their very kind permission of course! We removed all the old rubble, mounted the sleepers on type 1 for drainage, and back filled 100mm of type 1 before laying the patio on 50mm of mortar. The client was overjoyed to once again find a little bit of sanctuary in our glorious capital city.
A local client had a boundary which had not only become overgrown, but had slowly pulled the old wire fence down, meaning a total overhaul was necessary. Having cleared the site we used concrete posts and gravel boards to set the fence straight and give the whole end of the garden a tidy up, ready for the summer.
